The need for cooperation of all, for a single national position in the process of adopting a European Directive on the creation of a mandatory labeling system for food products, based on the consumer specificities of European citizens, points out in a letter to the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, administration of the Athens Chamber of Crafts.
According to reports, as reported by BEA in its letter, the French government is finally considering not applying the Nutri-Score coded label as the new labeling system – at least not before its mandatory application by the EU – although it was from the first countries to adopt it in a pilot application while considering other alternative proposals.
It is reminded that BEA has undertaken, in our country, the coordination of the “Initiative for an effective nutrition education system”, in which the Central Union of Chambers, GSEVEE, 15 productive bodies – associations and consumer organizations participate. The aim of the “Initiative” is to adopt a strategy for the proper information of consumers about healthy eating, but also not to implement a misleading food quality assessment system, such as the Nutri – score.
In its letter, BEA states that through the “Initiative”, it participated in the public consultation and provided the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) with general and specific comments on the recent scientific opinion of the Board of Experts (NDA panel). .
Also, the administration of the chamber states that it has a connection and constant information on the positions and actions of the rest of the EU countries, through the international confederations, in which members of the “Initiative” participate but also with the officials of the Ministry of Rural Development, studying the subject.
