Beach holidays in Italy? For Italians they are too expensive

L’Adoc ApuliaConsumer Orientation Defense Association, takes the data in hand and says what we have known for a long time: holidays in Italy are too expensive. So while the data in Puglia say that a day for a family of four at the sea – considering a morning on the beach, a dinner at a restaurant and a night in a bed & breakfast -, it costs from 160 up to 500 euros in Gallipoli, the shores of the region complain of less than 20% of the presences, and instead the percentages of Italians who choose a holiday abroad are rising. Comparing the data, according to Adoc Puglia, the low tourist influx in the region is due to increases in the prices of tourist services, accompanied by the economic difficulties of Italian families “forced to give up their holidays or in any case to choose cheaper destinations even at the cost of going out region or even outside the country”.

It is not – of course – only Puglia that is being targeted. In early summer the Codacons had estimated that the average price to spend a day at the beach in Italy for two adults and two children (without sleeping, with fuel to go to the beach, parking for sunbeds, umbrellas and drinks) it is between 100 and 110 euros with an increase of +13.4% on 2022. Second Demoscope hotels had an increase of 14.6% and restaurant services of 6.3%, led by fast food (8.2%), pizzerias (+6.5%) and ice cream parlors (+6.2% ). Thus domestic flights, increased by 28.9%.

These data are counterpointed by those of Fragil Italia report elaborated by Legacoop and Ipsos which confirms how the trend in prices is forcing Italians to reduce spending. On which sectors does the belt pull? Cultural and leisure activities (51%), entertainment (57%), dinners and out e trips (52%).

These are just some of the many researches that try to have a vision of what is happening in tourism in Italy today, there are many comments and forecasts, sometimes even in contradiction with each other. What seems clear is that Italy is becoming too expensive for Italians, and so while we welcome tourists ready to spend to our country, for us holidays in Italy are too expensivewe make less or – if we can – we move to cheaper places like Greece, Croatia, Albania. “International tourism is doing great. Italian tourism is suffering», confirmed the national president of the Sib (Italian bathing union) – of Confcommercio, Antonio Capacchione. And that’s not the only rumor about it. Surreal? Enough.
