A convicted South African killer who gunned down dozens of black men while working as a security guard during the apartheid era has said police condoned his actions. Louis van Schoor, known as “the man with the beard”, described as the country’s most prolific mass murderer, said others should share responsibility for the killings which saw him shoot people, including a 12-year-old boy, over a three-year period in the 1980s when he worked guarding white businesses in the South African town of East London.
