Spotify has released the official playlist for the coronation of King Charles III, which will take place on May 6. It has 27 songs.
A host of legendary British artists make up the list, such as The Beatles, The Kinks , The Who and Queen, alongside musicians who are on the music charts today, such as Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay.
However, the absence of one of the greatest bands in UK history is noted: The Rolling Stones.
The British royal family is known to have a history with some of the group’s members.
In 2003, the Rolling Stones frontman was knighted by Charles for his service to music in the country and the world.
According to the Daily Mail, when the Queen found out that Mick’s name had been added to the list, she reportedly responded with “not suitable”. She supposedly didn’t think she deserved the honor.
At the time, the band’s guitarist, Keith Richards, said that this “honor” was ridiculous and rejected it. In an interview with Uncut magazine, he declared that “the monarchy and the Rolling Stones should not be associated”.
He told the BBC: “I would never leave this family with a stick near me. With a sword, even less.”
