“We were boys before we were teenagers in Liverpool,” he added. “He seemed to us like a movie star”.

Recognizing that the Beatles were Britain’s most sought after export product at the time, Queen Elizabeth II invited them to Buckingham Palace in 1965 and awarded each member of the band the title of Knight of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).

When asked what kind of briefing he received on the protocol before meeting the Queen, McCartney recalled: “They tell you not to shake hands with her, you call her ‘lady’ not ‘majestic’ and you know if she stops and talks to you, talk to her”.

“Otherwise;” King asked. “Otherwise you close it,” McCartney replied with a laugh.
