Beatrice Grannò: “Dreaming of music”

The biggest dream that Beatrice Grannò keeps in the drawer only one: to be able to combine the passion for music and that for acting in a single project. “I would love to make a film in which I play a singer” explains Beatrice who, in fact, before becoming an actress, was born a dancer and musician. Always a lover of art, a passion that led her to move to London for several years before returning to her Rome, Beatrice inaugurates a career that immediately attracts the attention of critics, who have elected her as one of the young promises of the cinema to keep an eye on.

After the success of DOC – In your hands, Raiuno’s best-rated fiction in which she plays Luca Argentero’s daughter, e The Indifferent, Leonardo Guerra Seragnoli’s film landed on digital platforms in November, we will see it soon in Security by Peter Chelsom, the director of Shall We Dance?, and in Zero, the Netflix series created by Antonio Dikele Distefano and focused on second generation kids.

Born The Indifferent, the last film that starred her, her character is marked by a strong sense of apathy. Is it a feeling that has ever belonged to you?
«Talking about apathy in 2020 is very interesting because it is a particular feeling, different from that of many years ago. Our generation has a particular perception of reality: on the one hand there is real life and on the other there are social networks which often cause a strong sense of alienation “.

What relationship do you have with social networks?
“It is a constant struggle. There is a part of me that wants to adjust to this new state of affairs and there is another that strives to ensure that the things I do are as authentic as possible. Today, however, what counts more than the other publishes, it’s all a competition, controlling everything ».

Maybe we are slaves to appearances.
“I think everyone has a conflict with this thing, between how you look and how you are, something that arises especially during adolescence. In high school I was quite chaotic, I didn’t really know how I wanted to be, but I was always looking for the consent and acceptance of others. Only when I went to drama school in London did I find the pieces that I missed as a girl and glued them slowly together ».

When did you move to London?
“When I was 20. The idea of studying acting came late, because before I was projected towards dance and music: I felt, however, that I wanted to find a container that would contain everything “.

Ever thought of staying there?
“That was the plan. I had also formed an independent theater company that is still active today: I wanted to invest in that reality, also because London offers so much from this point of view. However, when I returned to Rome to audition for a Rai series, I rediscovered my city and, since then, I have always been up and down ».

Why does a Roman girl not go to the academy in Rome but go to London?
“I tried, but I couldn’t. In a moment of transition when I didn’t know where to throw myself, I tried London and it went well. Regardless of where you end up, studying doesn’t necessarily make you better, but more aware ».

Music, however, has always been part of her.
“When you act, you are the channel of the story you want to tell, but when you sing and play you realize that it is from the music that everything starts, and that is why lately I have been dedicating myself to a musical project of mine: Italian, but I only managed to find direction during the quarantine. I’d like to pursue a lateral career, to say in the lyrics all the things that I can’t say normally ».

What can’t he say?
“Many things. Art serves to explain something about us that the other does not understand: with my pieces I can tell episodes that I have never been able to bring out in any other way ».

What is your greatest talent, in your opinion?
“Kindness. I always try to find a sweetness in who I have in front of me, it is something that comes naturally to me. On the contrary, I find it very hard to get angry ».

They say there is a lot of anger in the acting world. Confirmation?
“It’s a world in which to make room for yourself you inevitably have to put yourself in front of someone, but I always hope that this doesn’t happen and that someone opens the way for me. For the rest, I’m very competitive and I work hard in everything I do ».

She will be happy, since DOC he had no rivals in the last TV season.
“It was a huge thing, a very well built project that happened at a time in history when people needed it. At the first reading, I already felt it would work. ‘

In the meantime we will soon see it also in Zero su Netflix.
“It is a wonderful project because it is not a series that claims to tell racism, but it is very modern. The second generation kids involved are very cool, they arrived on set with crazy energy: for them Zero it is not just a series, but a moment of redemption and joy ».

What do you see in your future?
“I don’t have any specific plans. I would simply like to continue doing this work and be able to realize my musical project. Maybe it will remain a small pearl and there won’t be others, but I would really like to try to get involved ».
