Until a few days ago I was completely unaware of the existence of the so-called “pick me girl” that is, that kind of girls, as the name suggests, that to impress the other sex, she tends to show herself different from the others, also focusing on clichés, stereotypes and other fairly misogynistic and sexist behaviors. To be clear, a pick me girl is one who would say “I have no friends because women are all envious and mean: I prefer to be with boys”.
The phrase certainly does not sound new to us, as does this type of way of doing that however has now gone viral on TikTok. In recent weeks, many creators have decided to publish videos in which they show what a pick me girl would say and how she would act.

A verse from a song by Lil Uzi which reads: «Pick me like, pick me like, pick me» and which is sung by the girls, with an angry expression, at the end of the video.

Ok, it is obvious that hearing such phrases is often unpleasant and embarrassing and I’m pretty sure that each of us, at least once in our life, has had to deal with similar people. However, if we think about those who behave in this way, they often do it to hide their insecurities and to seek approval in the eyes of others, especially if it is the male ones. Then, Is teasing them like it’s happening now on TikTok really the right thing to do? Isn’t it answering exactly the same coin to something that makes us suffer first?

Going for compliments to feel better about yourself or belittling others to highlight yourself is absolutely toxic behavior., but in many cases it hides a greater malaise and being a “pick me girl” seems to be for some the easiest way to feel up to the situation.
@nicole_rohrerSo many people don’t get pick me behavior and well THIS IS IT 😃 ##foryou ##fyp ##featureme♬ original sound – Uzi
Before judging, we always think about why whoever is in front of us is doing or saying a certain thing and, above all, we stop judging each other. always finding ourselves ready to stigmatize another girl’s behavior.
As our beloved would say Harry Styles, «Treat people with kidness» and above all we try to be in solidarity: it costs us nothing, but it is essential to build a safety net for those who feel insecure.
