After The Chess Queen – and waiting Bridgerton – there is another series that surprisingly conquered the Italian public (and not only). So much to be at the top of the Netflix trend chart in Italy for several days now. The plot puts in a little bit of everything: there are (attempted) murders, intrigues, sex, (very) low blows. But there is also talk of integration, harassment, food problems and how much one is willing to sacrifice to achieve success. It might seem like a big cauldron, but the 10 episodes never lose the thread.
Tiny Pretty Things, the new Netflix original series based on the book of the same name by Sona Charaipotra and Dhonielle Clayton, which at least partially recalls The black Swan, confirms what for some time – at least since the era of Hunger (They Will Be Famous) – we all know: dance on the screen is always one of the most fascinating and seductive narratives. The synopsis is simple: “When a model student at an exclusive academy is knocked out, her replacement enters a world of lies, betrayal and ruthless competition.”
Another strong point of the series is the cast. Almost all new actors, but with an important past in the world of dance. Kylie Jefferson it’s Neveah, Casimere Jollette it’s Bette, Daniela Norman it’s June. And then there are the boys: Brennan Clost it’s Shane, Michael Hsu Rosen it’s Nabil, Damon J. Gillespie it’s Caleb, Barton Cowperthwaite it’s Oren, Anna Maiche it’s Cassie. Everyone’s goal? Become a prestigious dancer or accept ruin. The rest is done by a beautiful Chicago in the background.
It starts with an attempted murder and ends – spoiler – with another murder. And yeswell the series has not been officially renewed by Netflix, all signs point to a comeback in the near future. In addition to the excellent numbers, the fans are also asking for the second season. “The story deserves a second season because there are points that still deserve to be explored », declared Anna Maiche alias Cassie Shore. An announcement is thus expected – as in the style of Netflix – in a few weeks.
