Beef export revenue from Brazil rises 42% in 2022; Abrafrigo predicts worsening in 2023

Total beef exports, considering in natura and processed products, generated revenue of US$ 13.09 billion for the country last year, up 42% compared to 2021, said this Monday (9) the Brazilian Association of Refrigerators (Abrafrigo) in a note, warning that the scenario tends to get worse in 2023 in the face of a retraction in protein prices.

In volume, 2.34 million tons of meat were exported, an increase of 26% in the annual comparison. China was the destination for more than half of sales, both in terms of prices (60.9%) and volumes (53.3%), according to the entity based on data from the federal government.

For this year, it is precisely the behavior of Chinese importers that may change the revenue scenario.

“This picture should not be repeated in 2023, especially in relation to the prices obtained last year, because in recent months there has been an intense renegotiation of values with the Chinese market, with the Brazilian product showing drops of more than 10% in average values” , he told Abrafrigo.

After China, the United States was the largest buyer of Brazilian beef, providing revenue of US$ 904.1 million, with 173,141 tons purchased. In third place was Chile.

In total, in 2022, 110 countries increased their purchases of Brazilian beef, while another 57 reduced.
