Beef price likely to fall by up to 20% in 2023, says consultancy

The final cost of Brazilian beef should fall by up to 20% for the final consumer in 2023, due to a greater supply of the product in the domestic market. That’s what the final report released by Safras & Mercado, the largest consultancy in the sector in the country, pointed out.

According to the data presented, currently, beef carcass is sold in Brazil for approximately R$ 320. For the next year, the expectation is that this same product will cost R$ 250 for slaughterhouses.

For the final consumer, the cheapness will also be noticeable. In practice, according to the study, cuts such as Filet Mignon and Picanha should have their cost reduced by between R$15 and R$20 per kilo.

The greater supply of animals destined for the domestic market is the result of a “considerable” increase in Brazilian herds for the next year. That’s what he explained to CNN the director of the consultancy, Fernando Iglesias.

At the same time, he pointed out that the sector will also continue with a trend of strong exports.

“The increase in supply within Brazil and sales abroad will go hand in hand. All this is possible on top of the good expansion of the replacement volume of these herds – with the incorporation of calves”, said Iglesias.

The expectation is that the Brazilian livestock sector will register an expressive result for 2023: an amount exceeding 226.3 million head of cattle – four million more than this year.

The largest concentration of herds is in the Midwest, a region that concentrates more than 78 million animals.
