Beekeeper is ordered to pay compensation to tutors for dog death

An beekeeper was ordered to pay compensation to a couple, in the amount of $ 5,000 for each, for moral damages and $ 231.51 for material damage, due to a bee attack that victimized their dog.

The decision was from the 11th Civil Chamber of the Minas Gerais Court of Justice (TJMG) which upheld the decision of the district of João Pinheiro, in the northwest of the state state.

According to the couple in the process, on October 4, 2020, they walked the streets of a district of João Pinheiro, had the pet dog when they were attacked by an African bee exam.

The animal was taken to the veterinary and medicated clinic, but could not resist the sting and ended up dying. The couple claims that they also suffered injuries to the arms, legs, face, hands and heads.

The beekeeper, in turn, presented an authorization for the breeding of bees but this was not enough to remove responsibility for the accident.

Analyzing the appeal sent by the bee breeder to the court, Judge Shirley Fenzi Bertão upheld the sentence. According to the rapporteur, the beekeeper should take caution measures in his activities, because they are at risk for society.

Based on testimonial evidence, the magistrate concluded that “the beekeeper did not fulfill his duty of care and showed negligence in providing any help to people passing by and were injured due to insect attacks.”
