Several Brazilian capitals are expected to record heat records, between this Wednesday (2) and Thursday (3), before the arrival of a new cold front . According to Climatempo’s forecast, historic highs may be exceeded in cities in the Southeast and Central-West regions.
Check out the extreme heat forecast in the capitals:
- São Paulo: the capital of São Paulo is expected to reach 37°C this Wednesday (2), surpassing the current record of 36.7°C recorded on September 26th;
- Rio de Janeiro: in Rio, the forecast is that the temperature will reach 40°C this Wednesday (2), surpassing the record of 39.5°C recorded on January 17;

The country is experiencing its eighth heat wave this year. In addition to the presence of a strong mass of hot air, which contributes to the increase in temperatures, a cold front moving towards the central Brazilian strip intensifies the heat even further.
This phenomenon, known as the “pre-frontal effect”, causes the air to warm up before the arrival of the cold front, favoring a more pronounced rise in temperatures, contributing to the extreme heat scenario predicted for the coming days.
The city of São Paulo experienced the second hottest September ever recorded in 81 years, according to measurements from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet).
This Wednesday, the cold front is already advancing over the south of the country, distributing instability across the states of Santa Catarina and Paraná. In Rio Grande do Sul, it rains from early in the morning in the center and north of the state, in areas that run through the mission region, in the valleys, in Greater Porto Alegre, in the Serra Gaúcha, north coast, north and northwest of Rio Grande do Sul.
In the Southeast, the cold front gains strength from Thursday (3). São Paulo, after today’s record heat, should not exceed 22 ºC tomorrow. In Rio de Janeiro, the maximum temperature will be 29 ºC, with chances of rain.
