A Netflix released this Thursday (08) behind-the-scenes images of “Avatar: The Last Airbender “. In the images, in addition to showing more of the special effects and recordings, the characters gave their testimonials about the series.
The new images show more of the world created in the animation universe. The first season will have eight episodes and will show the avatar saga Aang (Gordon Comier) in his quest for domination of the four elements.
Just like in the animation, the hero's saga takes place in a world in which the four nations of Air, Earth, Fire and Water lived in peace – until the Fire Nation attacked. Now, it is the avatar's role to regain peace in the world and defeat the Fire Lord, played by Daniel Dae Kim.
The series is based on the three-season animation “Avatar: The Last Airbender”, which first aired in 2005. The story is based on the cultures of Asian people and mainly on Japanese folklore and Chinese martial arts. The original episodes are made in an anime-like style, but they are not made in Japan – but in the United States.
“Having a predominantly Asian group of people in front of and behind the camera means a lot,” said Daniel Dae Kim. The entire original series uses oriental aesthetics throughout the episodes, themes and even character traits.
“For a long time, non-white actors didn’t have the chance to act in franchises like this,” says Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, who plays Iroh, the Fire Lord’s brother. “You can’t even imagine how important this is and how much more people will have a voice thanks to this.”
The Netflix series arrives on the streaming service platform on February 22 and is the new bet after the success of the anime adaptation of “One Piece”.
