Beijing Metro and Suzhou Metro Accept Digital RMB Payment

Chinese authorities continue to expand testing of the national digital currency. The metro can be paid for using the digital yuan.

The function is available for those users who have activated a standalone mobile application for working with state cryptocurrency by visiting a branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC). All 24 metro lines support e-CNY payments.

More than 10 million passengers use the Beijing subway every day. “Underground” has 428 stations. A day earlier, a similar function was launched in the metro of the large city of Suzhou.

In China, there is a special mobile application for paying for subway tickets called Yitongxing. The app also supports digital RMB payment – users need to activate the sub-wallet function in the e-CNY app, and the option to pay for tickets in digital RMB will appear in the Yitongxing app.

Earlier it was reported that 3,000 ATMs in China received the functions of exchanging ordinary yuan for a digital analogue and vice versa. In addition, workers in Xiong’an District in Hebei Province were paid in digital yuan.
