The President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree on the creation of a special registry, which will include cryptocurrency addresses associated, according to law enforcement officers, with criminals.
The official website of the President of Belarus emphasizes that the country’s authorities do not prohibit the free circulation of digital assets, but only “consistently develop the legal field” for regulating the crypto industry. According to the authorities, in order to stop illegal activities, it is necessary to create and constantly update a special register of “virtual wallet addresses (identifiers)”.
“This area requires constant monitoring of the situation, and, if necessary, additions and clarifications of regulatory norms. The registry is designed to protect participants in the digital asset market from the loss of property and prevent unintentional involvement in activities prohibited by law,” the explanatory note to the document says.
The state park of high technologies will be responsible for the formation of the register and its maintenance. This is the operator of a special economic zone with a special tax and legal regime, which was created to develop high-tech sectors of the Belarusian economy.
In September last year, Alexander Lukashenko advised the citizens of the country to mine cryptocurrencies, and not to work in Poland or Germany.
