Belarus formally charges student Sophia

Belarus has officially accused Russian student Sofia Sapega, the wife of dissident blogger Roman Potashevich, and a fierce critic of Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko of plotting to assassinate him. Ryanair that operated the flight Athens – Vilnius to land in Minsk.

Belarus’s investigative commission says it has charged Sapega with inciting social hatred, threatening police officers and violating data privacy laws, Belarus’s state news agency Belta reported, citing the head of the commission.

Sapega could not be reached for comment.

The Russian newspaper Izvestia wrote that Sapega agreed to cooperate with the interrogation and therefore could only face six years in prison instead of the 12 years that is the maximum sentence.

Both Sapega and Protasevic, who is accused of extremism, are under house arrest. Both were being held in rented accommodation, but Sapega has since moved in and it is not known where he is now.
