Belarus President Congratulates Ukraine on Independence Day

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko issued this Wednesday (24) a message congratulating the people of Ukraine on Independence Day.

“I am convinced that today’s contradictions will not be able to destroy the centuries-old foundation of sincere good-neighborly relations between the peoples of the two countries,” Lukashenko said in a message on the presidential website.

“Belarus will continue to advocate the preservation of harmony, the development of friendly and mutually respectful contacts at all levels.”

Lukashenko wished Ukrainians “peaceful heaven, tolerance, courage, strength and success in restoring a decent life”.

The small Eastern European country is allied with Moscow and was used as a jumping-off point for the February invasion of Ukraine. In addition, Ukrainian officials have reported an increase in Russian missile deployments at an air base in Belarus in recent weeks.
