Belarus: The first European country to approve a vaccine from Cuba

Soberana Plus is the vaccine for the coronavirus that developed in Cuba and Belarus became the first European country to approve its use.

The Finley Institute of Havana announced via Twitter the “good news”, namely that the Ministry of Health “has approved the use of Soberana Plus”. It is “the first European country to license a Cuban vaccine against COVID-19,” said the institute, which also produces another vaccine against the infection caused by SARS-CoV-2, Soberana 02.

This single-dose vaccine is recommended mainly for adults who are recovering from infection. It can also be used for the booster dose after two doses of Soberana 02.

Cuba, which has manufactured much of the vaccines it has used since the 1980s, has developed three vaccines against COVID-19, the Abdala and the two Soberana, which it uses itself and also has in countries such as Venezuela, Nicaragua, Vietnam and Iran. None of its vaccines have been certified by the World Health Organization (WHO) to date.reports APE-MPE, citing AFP.

To date, 90% of the 11.2 million Cubans have been vaccinated against COVID-19, and the number of cases has dropped dramatically in recent months. The account of the novel coronavirus pandemic on the Caribbean island is at 8,529 dead in a total of 1.1 million cases according to official data.
