In less than 24 hours, the Italian gossip columns told of two famous flashbacks: the one between Belén Rodriguez and Stefano De Martino and the one – international and much more popular – between Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. Not that these are any surprises, as both relationships have been amply confirmed by the protagonists in the past few months! In the same day, however, for the couples of Italian and American stars they reached a turning point.
Belén and Stefano for months have publicly limited themselves only to timid admissions, always rather vague and smoky, about their newfound love. A “say-not-say” betrayed by every Instagram story in which the two ended up framing the same location or the same restaurant, implicitly confirming that they are together. And not just for Santiago’s sake. Yet, until now, never an appearance as an official couple: only a few stolen shots. After being spotted by numerous fans in Ponza, during a romantic Sunday boat trip, the two decided not to hide anymore and to show – where still needed – that each other the passion has returned. Once again. They did it through the official profile of the well-known showgirl with the photo of a kiss and with some videos that portray them together.
Hollywood stars Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, on the other hand, went further and gave their fans an even bigger surprise: a wedding. The two – who in the early 2000s had made the world star system dream and then left one step away from the altar – have confirmed the relationship for some time, repeating – in the summer of 2021 – even a famous shot on a boat that had seen protagonists at the time of their first love story. Furthermore, in April of this year, a conspicuous engagement ring had appeared on Lopez’s finger. The symbol of a renewed and more mature promise of love, crowned on the night of July 16th.
The “Bennifers” – so called from the union of their names – said “yes” during a surprise ceremony, in which the bride wore a dream dress recycled from a movie set and the groom a jacket that arrives directly from his closet. A simple, private wedding, celebrated in Las Vegas – the capital of impulsive loves – but about twenty years after what must have been the first wedding. A detail that the Latin singer and actress did not shy away from underlining: «Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out that love is patient. She has been patient for twenty years, ”she wrote in the newsletter in which she confirmed the wedding.
In fact, to have created so much attention and so many enthusiastic comments from fans around the two events that have involved the famous couples in the last few days, it is probably precisely the sense of return. The trust in a happy destiny never dormant that brings two people back to find each other, despite everything. It often happens that the loves of characters from the star system arouse a sense of familiarity in the public. You become passionate about public relations, declarations of love declaimed from stages or while receiving awards and you begin to feel the stars as acquaintances to be genuinely happy for.
For the “Bennifers” and the former De Martino spouses, however, it is not just classic public affection: there is something that goes beyond that. Imagining and hoping that the famous saying about heated soup is not so true and that Antonello Venditti is right, when he sings that “certain loves do not end, they make huge turns and then they return” rekindles a hope in the hearts of hopeless romantics. And, probably, it ends up shaking somewhere deep even the most cynical people who do not want to believe in the happy ending.
In a time like ours, in which everything runs and goes fast, being able to slow down, rewind the tape and go back – without losing the awareness acquired with maturity – is not only a great fortune, but also a revolutionary act. And seeing couples come together after years of distance becomes a real unexpected caress for the soul.
Two people who – after betrayals, disappointments, relationships and children born of other unions – manage to find each other, in fact they can only represent the declination of a modern fairy tale in everyday reality. The sign of the impossible that becomes possible. A sentimental picture that would seem perfect for one of those romcoms in which Jennifer Lopez was the protagonist.
If the statements of Elodie on Marracash in recent days, however sweet, they said that sometimes love is not enough to keep going in a relationship and that a person can still remain important in a different way in our lives; these two couples have instead screamed to the world – in the course of a single day – that love can come back.
Accepting to get back in the game, indulging in your feelings again after a disappointment, and putting aside pride is quite complex. Second chances, however, are a gift that, at times, is worth unwrapping.
It is not easy, it is not obvious and not even fast: it took the «Bennifer» about 20 years to meet again and Belen and Stefano are at attempt number three. But perhaps, if it is destiny, the feeling that “moves the sun and the other stars” can really overcome any obstacle.
