A 43% increase in the number of coronavirus cases in Belgium this week, compared to the previous seven days.
In particular, between 06/28 and 07/05, 6,271 new infections were detected on average every day. Hospital admissions averaged 138.7 between 07/01 and 07/08. This is a 27% increase compared to the previous week.
In total, 1,660 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19, of which 87 are in intensive care units. At the same time, the Rt index is at 1.18.
Finally, between 28/06 and 05/07, an average of 8.7 people lost their lives every day from the virus, while since the start of COVID-19, 31,977 people have died.
Regarding vaccinations, according to the decisions of the Supreme Health Council of Belgium, citizens over 50 will receive an invitation for the second booster dose in September, while the immunocompromised and those over 65 will receive an invitation for a third booster dose. Also, those living in nursing homes will receive a fifth dose of the vaccine. At the same time, during the summer, health workers will have the opportunity to take a new booster dose.
