BELGIUM: Police alerted for April Fool’s Day prank in a park party

April Fool’s joke was finally a post on Facebook inviting to a big party in their park Brussels during the lockdown.

Due to the internet call and the 20,000 people who expressed interest in attending it sounded the alarm in Belgian police.

The announcement, posted in March, promised an evening with DJ, singer and producer Calvin Harris and an extraordinary reunion of the French band Daft Punk in Boua de la Campre, Brussels’ largest park.

The party would take place only after the imposition of a third lockdown in Belgium, in which public gatherings of more than four people are not allowed. The local police repeatedly informed the people that there would be no party.

“No party has been given permission and police will be there with an increased presence,” police said in a Twitter post.

Brussels prosecutors said on Wednesday (31/3) that those who do not comply with the sanitary measures will be prosecuted and that an investigation has already been launched into who is behind the Facebook post.

Residents of Brussels, as reported by the Athens News Agency, had already gone to the park during the summer of this week. Most had heard of the “joke” with the party.

Schoolgirl Julia Ferrari told Reuters she believed many people would go to the park. “But I think the authorities will do everything to ensure that it does not get too big and that from the beginning. “they may close the park,” he said.

The Belgian authorities are also in a difficult position after yesterday’s court ruling that the restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus are illegal and must be lifted within 30 days.

The Human Rights Association (LDH), which had filed a lawsuit on the issue, said it did not dispute the need for the measures but argued that there should be a new law and a debate in Parliament. The government that appealed the decision has now begun this legislative process.

Meanwhile, the party organizers announced that they have postponed their party for 2022, saying: “The party has been moved. “Once again, we brought it to you.”
