Belgium: The use of a mask in MMM is optional

The mask will no longer be mandatory from tomorrow, Saturday, on public transport in Belgium, but will remain mandatory in healthcare facilities, said the Codeco committee.

In Belgium, the mask will no longer be mandatory on trains, trams, buses, the metro and all forms of public transport. However, it remains mandatory in hospitals, clinics and pharmacies. In other clinics, for example dentists, psychologists or physiotherapists, the mask is still recommended when the distance of one and a half meters can not be maintained. Where mandatory mask use is abolished, there is still a recommendation for its use.

The Belgian Health Committee for Coronavirus (Codeco) has also decided to lift all travel restrictions. Unnecessary travel is no longer discouraged and all quarantine obligations apply only to people returning from a country where a variation is alarming.

Codeco also announced that the barometer, which provides for the entry into force of new measures in case of exceeding certain levels of contamination, is deactivated.

With regard to the vaccination certificate (Covid Safe Ticket), the legal framework at this stage does not allow its re-introduction, except in case of re-emergence of the pandemic.

In Belgium, the rate of virus replication is less than 1. 79% of the population (9.1 million people) have received one dose of vaccine and 60% (7.1 million) two doses.
