Belkin has released Soundform Connect that may be of interest to Apple users. It can be connected to a regular home speaker, turn it into a smart speaker compatible with AirPlay 2. In other words, it will be possible to broadcast sound to this speaker from an Apple iPhone smartphone (provided that it has iOS 11.4 or later installed), Apple iPad ( iPadOS 11.4 or later), Apple Mac (Catalina), or Apple TV (tvOS 11.4).
An interesting detail is the ability to connect both to the classic 3.5 mm jack and to the optical input without the need to use the TOSLINK-3.5 mm adapter in the second case.
By connecting Soundform Connect, users can ask Siri to play music or podcasts, adjust the volume remotely, and ask what’s playing in each room. Plus, the addition of AirPlay 2 means you can assign speakers to specific rooms and link them to home automation schemes from the Apple Home app. Belkin did not name the start of sales, confining itself to the promise that soon Soundform Connect will be available from “some retailers.”
