German Foreign Minister Johann Vandeful called on today, Monday 18/8, to increase pressure on Russia, including additional assistance to Ukraine, in order to force Moscow to make concessions to “a fair peace”. Vandeful made these statements from Tokyo a few hours before a meeting in Washington between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian counterpart Volodimir Zelenski, which will also be attended by European leaders. “It is probably not an exaggeration to say that the whole world has a look at Washington,” the German minister said during a press conference with his Japanese counterpart Tacci Iguaya. “Stable security guarantees are central because Ukraine should be able to defend itself effectively even after a truce and peace agreement,” Vandeful noted.
