THE Belmond Hotel das Cataratas the only hotel located within the Iguaçu National Park, was elected the best hotel in South America . The conclusion is from 2022 edition of the “Forbes Travel Guide”a traditional guide that is now in its 63rd edition.
The property located in the city of Foz do Iguaçu was classified for the fifth consecutive year with five stars, the maximum rating given to the hotels, restaurants and spas analyzed by the publication.
According to Forbes Travel Guide, five-star properties are “outstanding, often iconic, with virtually impeccable service and incredible facilities.” So, the hotel remains the only one in Brazil and South America to boast this attribute .
Operated since 2007 by the luxury brand Belmond, the hotel was originally opened in the late 1950s and stands out for its pink facade and privileged views of the waterfalls of Iguaçu set of waterfalls considered Natural Heritage of Humanity.
Among the highlights, the guide highlights the hotel’s “bold beauty” – which is only surpassed by the natural wonder of the surrounding scenery. “The hotel in Iguazu Falls is over the majestic falls and the surrounding national park. At dawn and dusk, guests have the falls to themselves”, comments the guide.
In all, the hotel has 187 rooms – the largest category of which is the Cataratas Suite, which has a separate living room, the possibility of connecting to a second bedroom and even privileged views of the waterfalls.
The hotel is still decorated with marbles and dark woods, has three restaurants, spa, well-kept gardens and personalized activities in the surrounding nature and, of course, in the Falls.
Other Brazilian hotels are highlighted in the guide
Despite the fact that Hotel das Cataratas is the only five-star hotel in Brazil and South America in this year’s edition, seven other national enterprises are also on the list.
Sao Paulo it has three of them with four stars, which, according to the classification, are “exceptional properties, offering high levels of service and quality of facilities”. Are they: Tangara Palace , Hotel Emiliano it’s the Fasano Sao Paulo – this last one elected as one of the best hotels in the world by the specialized magazine “Travel+Leisure”.
THE Unique Hotel in São Paulo, is also on the list, but was classified as “recommended”, that is, “excellent properties with consistent services and facilities”.
already the Rio de Janeiro concentrates three other Brazilian hotels on the list, with the Belmond Copacabana Palace rated four stars and the Fasano Rio de Janeiro it’s the Santa Teresa Hotel RJ – MGallery rated as recommended.
To rank hotels, the guide selects anonymous inspectors from around the world to stay at the accommodations for about three days and two nights, who pass themselves off as regular guests. According to the publication’s rules, they test up to 900 objective and rigorous standards, from modern luxuries to more traditional amenities.
