Belo Horizonte decrees emergency situation for respiratory diseases

The City of Belo Horizonte (MG) decreed an emergency due to the increase in cases of respiratory diseases. The decree was published on Wednesday (30), in the Official Gazette of the Municipality, valid for 180 days, and may be extended.

Belo Horizonte recorded an increase in the number of care due to respiratory conditions in health centers. In April there were 63,217 cases, the previous month, in March, there were 42,435 calls.

With the decree the city intends to obtain more resources from the federal and state government. “The publication of the decree allows Belo Horizonte to reinforce the hiring of professionals, expand the opening hours of health units, open new services to care for the population and have more agility in the process of buying equipment, inputs and medicines,” says the agency.

The municipality also recorded the need for pediatric beds. There were 69 hospital requests for children under 1 year between March 23 and 29. From April 20th to 26th, this number went to 196.

The number of bed requests for children aged 1 to 4 has also increased. Between March 23 and 29, there were 50 requests, already between April 20 and 26 this number rose to 82. “Our priority actions are directed to the opening of pediatric beds and reinforcement in care focused on children,” explains the Deputy Secretary of Health Care, André Menezes.

The city also has a plan to confront respiratory diseases. Through this plan 30 new beds of pediatric ward have been opened, 20 at the Odilon Behrens Hospital and 10 at the Hospital da Baleia.
