The entire Belo Horizonte region, in Minas Gerais, is on alert for a high risk of landslides due to the rains that hit the region. The information was confirmed by Major Carlos Eduardo Lopes, from the state Civil Defense, in an interview with CNN Radio.
“The Municipal Civil Defense of Belo Horizonte issued an alert for almost the entire region,” he said. According to him, the risk is associated with “the accumulation of rain that is combined with houses installed on ravines, slopes or close to slopes.”
The Major reinforced that there are 124 municipalities in emergency situation: “Since October, we have had, unfortunately, six deaths, we are still on alert because the forecast of rain for the state persists practically over the entire territory.”
