Belo Horizonte records the highest temperature of the year this Saturday (16)

The heat wave in the Southeast continues with high temperatures and very dry weather. This Saturday (16), Belo Horizonte recorded the highest temperature of 2024 and the highest for the month of March since 2013.

According to the Civil Defense of the capital of Minas Gerais, at around 2:20 pm, the thermometers registered 34.2 ºC at the Venda Nova station. Previously, the highest temperature of 2024 had been recorded on January 17, when thermometers registered 34ºC.

According to the historical series of the National Institute of Meteorology (INMET), the record temperature in a month of March had been in 2013, when the temperature reached 33.9 ºC on the 12th. Before that, the record was set five decades earlier, with 33.4 ºC on March 20, 1963.

On the first day of March 2024, thermometers reached 33.4ºC, equaling the third highest temperature for March so far. In addition to being the highest temperature for the month of March in the city, Civil Defense also warned of low humidity in the city, at just 33%.

Heat wave

During this week, the suffocating heat wave spread across the country, raising temperatures in the south, southeast and part of the central west. According to Climatempo, Saturday (16) was hot and without rain in the areas of Mato Grosso do Sul close to the border with Paraguay, on the coast of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, in Greater BH.

The same happened in the center-east of Minas Gerais, in Espírito Santo, in Recôncavo Baiano and in the center-north of Bahia, in the south and coast of Sergipe.

For Sunday (17), the forecast is for sun, heat and rain showers with lightning across almost all of Brazil. There is a risk of moderate rain in the south, northeast and north regions.
