Ben Affleck: ‘I never blamed my alcoholism on Jennifer Garner’

December, 2021. In the television living room of Howard Sternopening up about their problems related to alcoholism, Ben Affleck said that if he stayed within the marriage with Jennifer garnerprobably would continued to drink. Because – in his words – he felt “unhappy” and “trapped”. «I thought I couldn’t leave, I could not leave my children. Albeit I wasn’t happy. So I stuck to a bottle and I fell asleep on the sofa. But obviously that wasn’t the solution.”

Phrases that, within a few hours, rebounded in the media all over the world. But with meaning completely twisted: «The idea that I was gone has passed blaming my ex wife for my addiction, that is exactly the opposite of what I meant. I repeat, my behavior it has always been entirely my responsibility», he clarifies in the cover interview for Hollywood Reporters. “I just wanted to point out that i was not happy and filled the sadness with something not greet».

In essence, Ben evidences how his statements have been taken out of the original context and artfully manipulated, to create controversy and make a few more clicks. “For me it was a painful experience», adds the American actor, who was married from 2005 to 2017 with Jennifer from whom he had his three children – Violet, Seraphina and Samuel – and to whom he has always shown gratitude for all the support received. “She taught Me the meaning of love»he has revealed in the past.

“I would never want my kids to think I would even say one negative word about their mom», he added on the Jimmy Kimmel Show, returning to the question. “We respect each other, we tried. But we just couldn’t be together anymore like husband and wife».
