Benjamin Netanyahu tells soldiers that ground offensive against Gaza “is coming”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told soldiers this Tuesday (24) that a ground offensive against the Gaza Strip is still on the cards, even amid a growing sense of “delay”.

“We are facing the next phase, it is coming. You know this and you are part of it; you are part of the vanguard,” the prime minister told the Yahalom unit of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), according to a press release from Netanyahu’s office.

The Yahalom unit is a special group of the Combat Engineer Corps and is trained to handle special engineering tasks, according to the IDF website.

The press release highlighted that Netanyahu was briefed on the unit’s recent activity and its preparation for the future during a visit to the Israeli military’s Immanuel Base.

“We have only one mission: to crush Hamas. We won’t stop until we complete it, with your help. I trust you, the people of Israel trust you. I am proud of you and I salute you”, commented the prime minister during the meeting with troops.

Netanyahu also stated that Israel is “attacking the enemy with great force.”

“Yesterday, in our attacks on Gaza, we dealt the hardest blow the enemy has ever received in a single day. We killed dozens of terrorists, possibly even more. At this precise moment, we are clarifying the exact magnitude of the attack,” he highlighted.

“However, we also know that although we are active in additional sectors in the north, we are hitting those who try to attack us, also in Judea and Samaria,” he added, using biblical names to refer to the West Bank.

The press release also noted that Netanyahu was shown some ammunition that Hamas brought to Israel, which were seized by the Yahalom unit and delivered to its National Munitions Neutralization Center.
