Berlin calls on Athens and Ankara to reach an agreement through dialogue

Berlin is “closely monitoring” developments in Greek-Turkish and related statements and “calls for dialogue between the two sides,” said Deputy Government Spokeswoman Christiane Hoffmann.

Responding to questions about the growing Turkish provocation in the Aegean and recent statements by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, Ms. Hoffman referred to a statement by government spokesman Stephen Hempstreet, who stressed that “cooperation at NATO is particularly important at this time.” and had appealed “to the Turkish president, but also to the Greek prime minister, to find them”.

“I have nothing to add to what my colleague said. And it is certainly true – I can say this in general – that we are watching closely what is happening there, the statements that are being made and we can only really appeal, especially within NATO. “Alliance partners should negotiate with each other,” said Ms Hoffman, who, after persistent questions about which of the two leaders was being called upon, limited herself to saying that the government spokesman’s answer was valid. and to it he has nothing to add. “The words need no explanation and are still valid,” he said.

Asked about the delivery time of the submarines from Germany to Turkey, Economy Ministry spokeswoman Anika ‘Einhorn said no details on individual armaments programs had been announced, adding that the approval time of a program could be significantly different from the delivery time. .
