The film “The Best Mother in the World “, new work by the director Anna Muylaert (“Que Horas Ela Volta?”), was selected for the 75th edition of Berlin Festival in the Berlinale Special (non-competitive) section.
The film follows the story of Gal, played by Shirley Cruz a collector of recyclable materials who, in order to escape the violence of her husband Leandro, played by Seu Jorge, puts her young children in her cart and crosses the city of São Paulo.
Along the way, she faces the dangers of the streets while trying to convince the children, Rihanna and Benin, that they are living a great adventure.
In addition to Shirley Cruz and Seu Jorge, the cast includes Rihanna Barbosa , Benin Dailher and Luedji Luna, with the participation of Katiuscia Canoro , Dexter and Lourenço Martinelli . Production is by +Gallery .
In Brazil, “The Best Mother in the World” is scheduled to premiere in August 2025, although no official date has been confirmed.
“The Best Mother in the World” is not the only Brazilian film in the event’s selection. The 2025 Berlin Festival also confirmed the presence of other Brazilian films.
In 2025, the Berlin Festival will have director Todd Haynes as jury president and will take place from February 13th to 23rd.
