Germany announced on Saturday night the suspension of its funding to the UN agency for Palestine refugees (Unrwa) until it clears up the issue of the possible involvement of some of its workers in the October 7 attack.
“Until this is clarified, Germany, in agreement with the other donor countries, will not temporarily give its approval for new funds for Unrwa in Gaza,” the German foreign and development ministries announced, clarifying that “at present, anyway otherwise, there is no outstanding commitment”.
In the meantime, the head of the UN agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, described as “outrageous” the suspension of its funding decided by many donor countries, after the confrontation over the possible role of some employees of this agency in the attack of October 7 .
“It is infuriating to see the suspension of funding in response to complaints against a small group of workers”, given the measures already taken and the role of the service which “two million people depend on just to survive”, said Filipe Lazzarini. , according to a press release.
