A woman from Iowa, who is believed to have been the oldest person in the usa died at the age of 115, after living through historical events, from the two World Wars, the Spanish Flu, the Great Depression and the Covid-19 pandemic.
Bessie Hendricks passed away Tuesday at a nursing home in Lake City, Lampe & Powers Funeral Home reported.
Hendrix born November 7, 1907 and was listed by the Los Angeles Gerontology Research Group as the oldest person in the US. She was a one-room school teacher in her hometown of Calhoun and had five children, three of whom are still alive, according to USA Today.
When she turned 112 she told local media that the secret to her longevity was “the hard work». Her daughter said at the time that Hendricks almost never took medication and liked sweets.
On her 115th birthday, the Shady Oaks Nursing Home where she resided reported that “she had a wonderful day celebrating with her family and friends.”
With Hendrix’s death, the oldest living person in the US is now Eddie Ceccarelli of California, who will turn 115 on February 5.
