Best wildlife photography award opens popular poll

Curious meerkats, a rescued Amazon River dolphin and a school of barracudas feature in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year popular vote image list, and fans can now vote for their favorite.

The 25 images are currently on display in an exhibition at London’s Natural History Museum until the end of voting on February 2, 2022, according to a museum press release.

The winner will have their photograph displayed at the show until June 5, the museum said.

Other selected photos include a female orangutan caring for her baby, a grizzly bear fishing for salmon, and a herd of elephants guarding her young.

“The popular vote award offers impressive observations of nature and our relationship with it, piquing our curiosity and strengthening our connection with the natural world,” said Natalie Cooper, researcher at the Museum of Natural History and member of the panel of judges, in a statement. .

“It’s an incredible challenge to pick just one of these images, so we’re excited to find out which wild moment emerges as an audience favorite.”

More than 50,000 entries were received from 95 countries for this year’s competition.

In October, French underwater photographer Laurent Ballesta was crowned Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2021. His winning photo showed camouflaged groupers emerging from their milky cloud of eggs and sperm in a biosphere reserve in Fakarava, French Polynesia.
