If the television programs have struggled not a little to keep company during the hot months of the epidemic, to cheer the days of the public we have thought about the TV series that, thanks to their protagonists, they managed to isolate us for a moment from the flow of news that bombarded us every day and to travel, with the mind and the heart, to epochs and stories very far from ours. This year, in fact, of quality products inhabited by charismatic, strong and at times controversial characters, luckily we have seen many: fromAndrea Fanti of DOC – In your hands, Raiuno’s most sparkling success after Montalbano, at Lady Diana protagonist on Netflix of the fourth season of The Crown; by Fraser and Caitlin, protagonists of the beautiful series by Luca Guadagnino Who Are Who We Are, to Petra played by Paola Cortellesi, also on Sky.
Together with particularly guessed and loved characters such as the Sana di SHAME Italy, the first Italian Muslim girl to be at the center of a serial product, the Esty of that little gem of Unortodox e the Lila and the Lenù of the surprising second season of The Brilliant Friend, there are many others unjustly passed over in silence. Like Naditza, the Neapolitan gypsy among the protagonists of Sea Out, one of the most beautiful series that has appeared on public service in the last year and a half, or as Caterina, the slightly unripe girl played by Elle Fanning who dreams of becoming empress of Russia taking the place of her husband Pietro (the series is The Great, is available on StarzPlay and was written by Nigel Williams, the same de The favourite).
Space, however, also for decidedly more talked about figures: from the punk Pope interpreted by John Malkovich in The New Pope by Paolo Sorrentino at the Chess Queen Beth Harmon, perhaps the character who will most impress us of this last year on television. Her apparent coldness, mixed with the desire to create a deeper contact, makes her a modern heroine that we can’t wait to see again in Laughter in the dark, the new project that actress Anya Taylor Joy and showrunner Scott Frank are working on, also for Netflix. In short, between Rai, Netflix, Sky, Apple Tv + and StarzPlay, we can say that we have satisfied our taste in terms of series and characters with which it is possible to identify more or less. With the hope that our expectations will not be disappointed next year.
