The Justice of Goiás accepted a new complaint offered by the Public Ministry of the state (MP-GO) within the scope of Operation Penalty Maximum II, which investigates the manipulation of results in football with the involvement of players and intermediaries.
Now, the 17 cited are defendants and have a period of ten days to answer the accusations. Of these, five are professional athletes. The decision was taken by the 2nd State Court for Repression of Organized Crime and Money Laundering in the State of Goiás.
On March 16, the Justice of the state of Goiás had already accepted the denunciation of the first phase of the same operation.
In addition to accepting the complaint this Tuesday (9), the Justice maintained the preventive detention of the following defendants:
- Bruno Lopez de Moura (appointed as head of the scheme)
- Thiago Chambó Andrade (recruiter/intermediary)
- Romário Hugo dos Santos (former player and recruiter)
The three, arrested in the state of São Paulo, had a request to be transferred to Goiás.
The new MP-GO complaint
Nine people are being investigated for “giving or promising a pecuniary or non-pecuniary advantage in order to alter or distort the result of a sports competition”. Effectively, they are the people who approached the players offering values to commit a penalty or be punished with a card. The prison sentence ranges from two to six years and a fine.
The athletes who became defendants are:
- Eduardo Bauermann (Santos)
- Victor Ramos (at the time in Portuguesa)
- Igor Carius (at the time in Cuiabá)
- Paulo Miranda (at the time at Juventude)
- Fernando Neto (at the time at Operário-PR)
All would have negotiated values to participate in the scheme.
Another four players collaborated with the investigations and were not denounced by the MP-GO.
Onitlasi Moraes Rodrigues Júnior (at the time at Juventude), Kevin Lomónaco (Bragantino), Nikolas Santos de Farias (Novo Hamburgo) and Emilton Pedroso Domingues (Inter de Santa Maria) received amounts and agreed with the manipulation, but helped the public body in the investigations .
