Between whom and how is the smartphone market divided: Chinese manufacturers are becoming more popular

Analytical agency Counterpoint has published visual statistics on the distribution of global smartphone market shares by quarters, starting from the third in 2020. Compared to the first quarter of this year, the shares of Samsung and Apple declined in the second quarter, while the popularity of major Chinese competitors and other manufacturers increased.

In quantitative terms, sales statistics for the second quarter of 2022 are as follows:

  1. Samsung – 62.5 million;
  2. Apple – 46.5 million;
  3. Xiaomi – 39.5 million;
  4. OPPO (including OnePlus) – 28.2 million;
  5. Vivo – 25.5 million;
  6. The rest – 92.3 million.

The total number of devices sold during this period was 294.5 million, the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic that total sales fell below 300 million.

Samsung was the only one (of the top five manufacturers) to increase sales in a year. The statistics are also notable for the fact that although Apple’s share has increased, the number of its sold smartphones has fallen as part of the general global decline in the mobile phone sales market.
