BH residents confuse a cat with a jaguar cub; animal is rescued

The Minas Gerais Fire Department (CBMG) was triggered on Tuesday morning (10) to capture a jaguar cub that was actually a cat.

The cat, called Massinha, is of the Bengal breed, known as the “Bengal cat”, which can cost up to R$ 7 thousand reais. The confusion when the animal ran away from home.

As some characteristics of this breed are similar to those of a jaguar, some neighbors, when they noticed the cat walking around the condominium, got scared and warned the doorman, who called the fire department.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters located the animal and soon realized that it was not a jaguar cub. Even so, they believed it to be a wild cat, a wild and non-domestic species.

The military used capture techniques and, with the help of a net, captured the cat and took her to a forested area, close to a neighborhood in Belo Horizonte, where she was released.

The animal’s tutor, Rodrigo Calil, noticed the pet’s disappearance and questioned the doorman, who told him what had happened.

The man triggered the Fire Department, which returned to the place where they had released the cat, but she had already disappeared.

The searches were carried out by friends, members of the NGO Grupo Resgate Animal and the military throughout Tuesday (10).

But the animal was only found in the middle of the night, when Rodrigo took his seven-year-old daughter to help with the search. Upon hearing the voice of the child, one of the people closest to the cat in the house, she appeared.
