Bia Haddad wins WTA 250 in Birmingham and wins second title in a week

the brazilian tennis player Bia Haddad Maia won the Birmingham WTA 250 tournament in UK , this Sunday (19), winning the second title in less than a week. She faced Chinese Shuai Zhang.

Zhang withdrew from the match during the first set after experiencing neck pain. The victory is the 10th consecutive victory for Haddad, and the second consecutive title in the grass modality.

Earlier, Haddad beat Romanian Simone Halep by two sets to one (6/3, 2/6 and 6/4). Zhang had already defeated fellow Romanian Sorana Cirstea in the third set tiebreak (4/6, 6/1 and 7/6).

Last Sunday (12), she won the biggest title of her career by winning the WTA 250 in Nottingham. At the time, the Brazilian beat American Alison Riske by two sets to one, with partials of 6/4, 1/6 and 6/3.

The title broke a long fast without titles for Brazilian tennis players in international tournaments played on grass.

The taboo had already lasted 54 years. The last Brazilian to win a title on this type of floor was the multi-champion Maria Esther Bueno, in 1968, at the Manchester tournament, in England.
