Bicycle maker Colnago adopts blockchain to combat counterfeiting and theft

Colnago, an Italian sports bike manufacturer, has partnered with MyLime to implement digital product passports on the blockchain to combat theft and counterfeiting.

According to Colnago’s statement, starting next year, the company will use blockchain to provide customers with proof of authenticity and ownership of their bicycles to combat theft and counterfeiting of all Colnago lines.

“We have explored the security capabilities that blockchain provides to give our customers confidence in the authenticity of the bicycles they buy. Next year we will be announcing other businesses that we have improved with blockchain, ”said Manolo Bertocchi, head of marketing at Colnago.

Colnago has partnered with Italian technology firm MyLime, a developer of RFID tags that will be used to create digital bike passports on its own MyLime Automotive Blockchain. Cyclist Tadej Pogačar will demonstrate the first radio-tagged model of a bicycle on September 26 at the UCI Road Racing World Championship in Belgium.

The use of blockchain to combat counterfeiting is becoming more and more popular. In April, LVMH, Prada and Cartier said they would use blockchain to combat counterfeit goods.
