Biden administration criticizes “unilateral recognition” of Palestinian State

The Biden administration disapproved of the announcement by Spain, Norway and Ireland this Wednesday (22) that they will recognize the Palestinian state, reiterating that, although the US president supports the path to a two-state solution, he would continue to seek it through of diplomatic negotiations between the two parties.

“The president is a strong supporter of a two-state solution and has adopted this same position throughout his career,” said a spokesperson for the National Security Council to CNN this Wednesday (22). “He believes that a Palestinian state should be realized through direct negotiations between the parties, and not through unilateral recognition.”

Over the weekend, President Joe Biden said he supported a two-state solution during the graduation of a Morehouse College class, calling it “the only solution where two people live in peace, security and dignity.”

In a call with reporters on Tuesday, a White House official said the process is “still ongoing” to reconcile what exactly the post-conflict phase of the two-state initiative will look like as the U.S. discusses these ideas. with other Arab capitals and with Israel.
