Biden advisor says campaign is moving forward after debate

White House senior adviser Anita Dunn admitted that US President Joe Biden’s performance during the first US presidential debate was lackluster, but highlighted his administration’s achievements since taking office and argued that he is the best candidate to defeat former President Donald Trump.

“I would tend to say it wasn’t his greatest debate, but it’s 90 minutes in a campaign and in an administration where he’s accomplished huge things — so maybe it wasn’t a great debate, but he’s been a great president,” Dunn said in a statement. interview with MSNBC.

She said Biden is the only candidate who can defeat Trump in November.

“The president is the only person who has ever defeated Donald Trump and will do it again. And now, we are all working together on this,” she said.

Dunn also said the Biden campaign is focused on getting the message across to the American people about how Biden wants to preserve abortion rights and cares about a range of issues like immigration.

Dunn’s comments come after widespread concern among Democratic lawmakers and donors following Biden’s shaky debate performance. The New York Times editorial board also called on Biden to drop out of the presidential race on Friday.

Biden himself acknowledged his poor performance on Friday during a more energetic campaign rally in North Carolina, saying, “I know I’m not a young man. I don’t walk as easily as I used to. I don’t speak as well as I used to. I don’t debate as well as I used to, but I know what I know: I know how to tell the truth. I differentiate right from wrong. And I know how to do this work. I know how to make sure things get done.”
