The President of the United States, Joe Biden, apologized this Monday (1) to world leaders at the summit of the 26th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26) for the climate actions taken by the government of former President Donald Trump, who withdrew from the Paris Climate Agreement.
“I don’t think I should apologize, but I do apologize for the fact that the United States – in the last administration – pulled out of the Paris Agreement, putting us a little behind the 8 ball,” Biden said at an action and solidarity event in Glasgow, Scotland.
“Our meeting here in Glasgow is not the end of the journey. We all know that,” Biden said at the event, adding that it’s “really just a starting line-up”.
“We have the tools, we have the knowledge and the resources. We have to make some choices,” added Biden.
Biden is under pressure to demonstrate America’s commitment to climate change. World leaders wonder how long their promises can last when political changes could cause the country to drastically change course.
