Biden asks for “higher levels of protection” for Trump and Kamala, says Secret Service

Following the assassination attempt on Donald Trump on July 13, “the Secret Service has increased resources to an already heightened security posture for the former president,” Ronald Rowe Jr., acting director of the U.S. Secret Service, said at a press conference Monday (16).

“In the days that followed, President Biden made clear that he wanted the highest levels of protection for former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. The Secret Service moved to maintain the increases in resources and the level of protection requested. And those measures were in place yesterday,” he added, referring to the apparent attempt to attack the Republican.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said during a press conference that security at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida is at the “highest possible level” following the incident.

Bradshaw and other officials are providing an update on the investigation into the incident. The sheriff also said he will provide “every resource possible” to the Secret Service as the investigation continues.

The same statement was made by US Attorney General Merrick Garland, who promised to use “all available resources” in the investigation.

Garland said that “the FBI continues to investigate what appears to be an assassination attempt on former President Trump” and that “we are grateful that the former president is safe.”

“The Department of Justice — including the FBI, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, and the National Security Division — is coordinating closely with our law enforcement partners on the ground,” he said. “We will work tirelessly to ensure accountability and will bring all available resources to bear in this investigation.”
