US President Joe Biden stated this Saturday (8), during an official visit to the headquarters of the French government, that Vladimir Putin is a threat to all of Europe. And that the Kremlin’s offensive “will not stop in Ukraine”.
During a joint statement with French President Emmanuel Macron, Biden further assessed that “all of Europe needs to be ready. We won’t let that happen. US support for Ukraine remains strong, as does our support for our allies, France.”
Biden highlighted the US sending a military aid package to Ukraine totaling US$225 million. The money should finance new security systems for the country.
“This is the sixth package we have provided since we signed the national security law at the beginning of the year. I wish we had sent the money six months ago, when it was our intention, but we managed to accomplish the task,” said Biden.
Middle East
Biden and Macron celebrated the announcement that the Israel Defense Forces managed to rescue four hostages captured by Hamas on October 7 last year.
And they highlighted that stability in the region depends on reducing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, a Lebanese group that has exchanged occasional attacks with Israeli forces since the start of the war in the Palestinian enclave.
“It is urgent to reduce tensions between Israel and Hezbollah,” Macron said. “We are redoubling joint efforts to prevent a regional explosion, particularly in Lebanon.”
France and the United States have been working in recent months to try to calm tensions, with Paris presenting written proposals to both sides aimed at preventing the escalation of cross-border attacks between Israel and Hezbollah.
The United States also worked on the issue, but diplomats said there were problems coordinating efforts.
Macron said the two countries had developed “close coordination” in discussions “with Israel on the one side and with Lebanon and all parties involved on the other side.”
