The president of U.S , Joe Biden “believes that this is exactly the right time to go to Israel and Jordan”, said this Tuesday (17) the coordinator of the National Security Council for Strategic Communications, John Kirby, anticipating the president’s visit to the region scheduled for Wednesday (18).
Biden will “talk to other leaders in the region about the humanitarian assistance we want to ensure arrives in Gaza Strip about Israel’s plans and intentions for the future, how this is playing out on the ground, and absolutely to continue the conversation with regional partners about the hostages and see if we can get them back to their families,” Kirby told CNN .
The US does not want this conflict to “escalate and widen”, he said.
“We don’t want to see this conflict escalate and expand; there are no plans or intentions to put US troops on the ground in combat in Israel – everything we are doing right now is to send a strong deterrent signal,” he added.

Biden will also keep US hostages at the top of the agenda, which “will be represented in every conversation he has: with Israeli officials, including the prime minister, as well as with the president [Abdel Fattah el-Sisi] of Egypt, the president [Mahmoud] Abbas of the Palestinian Authority and certainly King Abdullah of Jordan,” Kirby said.
The US still believes some Americans were taken hostage by Hamas, but nothing is known about their conditions, a US official told CNN .
