US President Joe Biden on Thursday (11) backtracked on a report that he had suggested he could push for early evening events, acknowledging he needs to “pace” as he faces the responsibilities of being president.
“That’s not true,” Biden said during Thursday’s (11) press conference.
“What I said was, instead of starting every day at 7 and going to bed at midnight, it would be smarter to pace yourself a little bit more. And I said, for example, things like 8, 7, 6. Instead of starting a fundraiser at 9 p.m., start at 8 p.m. They can go home at 10 p.m. That’s what I’m talking about,” he added.
The president also took a swipe at former President Donald Trump, accusing him of doing “virtually nothing,” arguing that he followed a strict timetable.
“My schedule is packed. I’m done — where has Trump been? Riding around in his golf cart, filling out his scorecard before he hits the ball? I mean, look. He’s done virtually nothing,” Biden said.
Biden also claimed that his staff members “add things” to his schedule and that he is “getting a hard time” from the first lady for it, suggesting that his team has overworked him.
“I love my team, but they add things. They add things all the time. I’m hurting with my wife,” the Democrat said.
“For the next debate, I will not be traveling across 15 time zones,” the president added, echoing comments Biden’s team made after his poor performance in the CNN from last month.
A CNN had previously reported that Biden told Democratic governors during a White House meeting that part of his plan going forward is to stop scheduling events after 8 p.m. so he can get more sleep, according to three sources briefed on his comments.
