In a speech on Friday (11), the President of the United States, Joe Biden, commented on the possibilities of an escalation of tension in relation to the war in Eastern Europe. However, Biden stressed that the US “will not fight World War III in Ukraine”.
The American president reiterated his full support for NATO allies and assured that the US will defend “every inch of the territory” of the alliance and will continue “to support our European allies”.
“I want to be clear, though, let’s make sure Ukraine has the weapons to defend itself against an invading Russian force. And we will send money and food aid to save the lives of Ukrainians. We will welcome Ukrainian refugees with open arms if indeed they come here,” Biden said.
The US president also thanked members of the House of Representatives for their support for Ukraine, noting that he spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for about an hour. Biden added that he speaks with Zelensky “almost daily.”
During the speech, the president also stressed the importance of the US and its allies moving together in any move to neutralize the Kremlin.
“I know I have occasionally frustrated you, but more important than moving when we want to is making sure all of NATO is united. They have different vulnerabilities than we do,” she said.
Possibilities of a Third World War
According to Biden, sending American military support directly to Ukraine would cause World War III.
“Make no mistake about the idea that we would send American military offensives, aircraft, tanks, pilots and teams to Ukraine. If that happens, it will be World War III. Let’s make this very clear, please make no mistake.”
The statement comes after the US formally declined Poland’s offer of fighter jets that could be transferred to combat zones in Ukraine. The Polish government said it was ready to place all of its MIG-29 fighter jets on a US Air Force base and make them available to Washington.
The US declined the offer and said sending the fighters would be a “possibility of irritation to Russia”. This Friday, Biden made the same assessment and stressed that there are more than 12,000 US troops in countries around Ukraine.
The American president also assessed that if Russian troops invade NATO territory, “the Third World War will begin”. Biden said that the country has this obligation because of Article 5 of NATO, which says that the resources of all member countries can be used to protect any of the nations that are part of the alliance.
Also on Friday, White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates said Russia’s current strategy is “endless escalation.”
“Putin’s only strategy has been to escalate at every step, but it is becoming increasingly clear that it is endless escalation, and its erratic brutality, which comes at the expense of the Russian people and, again, his own demoralized troops. , is proving to be a disaster for your country,” the spokesperson said.
Increase in fuels
The US president also excused himself from the blame for the rise in fuel prices in the country. This week, Biden announced a ban on imports of oil, natural gas and coal from Russia.
According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin is truly responsible for the rise in inflation in the US. “Inflation is Vladimir Putin, from the moment he put his more than 100,000 soldiers on the Ukrainian borders the price of gasoline started to rise,” he said.
Biden criticized the oil companies, saying that the oil companies and their executives “don’t want to extract more oil, although they have the capacity to do so”. In the assessment of the American president, “they prefer to use the profits to buy back the stocks”.
According to Biden, the US will invest more in alternative fuels and in the manufacture of electric vehicles.
