The president of the USA Joe Biden said today that there is “no doubt” that his predecessor Donald Trump advocated an insurrection, but that it is up to the judiciary to decide whether this will disqualify him from running for president in 2024.
“It’s self-evident. You all saw them. Whether it falls under the 14th Amendment (of the US Constitution) or not, we’ll leave that up to the court,” Biden told reporters during a trip to Wisconsin. “Surely, though, he supported a rebellion. There is no doubt about it. Absolutely none!”, completed.
The US president commented in this way on yesterday’s decision of the Colorado Supreme Court to disqualify Trump from running for the presidency of the US due to his role in the attack of his supporters on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
The historic ruling – which Donald Trump will challenge in an appeal to the Supreme Court – makes the Republican tycoon the first US presidential candidate to be disqualified from the election process under the Constitution’s 14th Amendment, which bars those involved in ” sedition or mutiny’ to hold public office.
